It used to be that only the wealthy could afford diamond jewelry; it was a rarity to own it back then. In 860 Pope Nicolas I announced that a ring was a requirement to signify engagement and it was also stipulated that it should be a gold ring - this indicated the financial commitment being made by the groom. Some sources say the origin of engagement rings dates back to 1477 when the Archduke Maximillian of Austria bought his beloved Mary of Burgundy some serious bling.
Explanation of Cut, Color and Clarity of This Diamond
Cut Quality Diamonds of premium cut proportions are almost as good as ideal. Most people will not be able to distinguish an idea cut from premium. Less diamond material is lost in the process of cutting thus making the diamonds less expansive then ideally cut ones. In short premium cut reflects almost as much light as the ideal-cut, but for a lower price.
Color H color diamonds are near colorless. H color may be somewhat noticeable when compared to diamonds of better grades, but this grade offers excellent value. Its very faint tint will only be noticeable to a trained gemologist. Such diamonds look beautiful in platinum and white gold and offer outstanding value.
Clarity VS2 Clarity diamonds are very slightly included grade two. VS2 diamonds have minor inclusions that are visible at 10x magnification. They are less expensive than the VS1 clarity grade because they exhibit slightly more inclusions. VS2 clarity diamonds make excellent choices for jewelry because the naked eye will not be able to detect any inclusions.
